I am very sad to report,That it took me three years, to get this thing installed.
Two weeks after we moved into our house,Tanya went to Sears and bought the garage door opener. I admit,I draged my feet. After an initial burst of enthusiasm, the project came to a halt because it was too long to fit in front of the support beam.
This was a relatively mild January. One of the few days where it didn't rain and the sun proved its existence.
Well this was our first sunset of the year
Dear Family and Friends, 2016
April-30 We had our first barbecue. The New York steak was great. Tanya made an excellent salad and a mushroom sauce for the meat. We made good use of the grill this year (2016). Barbecue season continued through September.
Starting in May we had the painter changing the color of our house and adding 2-3 layers of paint for weather protection. We really like the color and many of our neighbors do too. It is now the house with the most un-muted color on the street.
The project draged on for 3 months. Boy i was glad that i did not do it myself and heeded the advice i have received from friends with houses.
I was always a little cold in my man cave downstairs. The little space heater was always on and burning kw/h to make it comfortable. The gas insert is doing this now in the cold season of the year. It is not just a man cave anymore. it is the cosy place in the house were everyone likes to be.
Long Beach WA for our wedding anniversary and Tanya's birthday...Beautiful weather and not too crowded! `'Tree huggers" protected the environment by limiting use of the beach. A little too restrictive for Christian. Surrounded by vorboten signs he thought he was back in the old country! Nowhere to run to. Nowhere to hide.
Exploring the tip of Long Beach at Leadbetter PT State Park...We endured a harrowing hike from the parking lot through mosquito invested overgrown trails in order to find our way to the beach! Christian's idea of a nice walk with his bride.
For meals we frequented an Australian themed restaurant, the Lost Roo by night and an excellent bakery by morning.
A visit from Tanyas brother and family from Kennesaw. Here we are in North Bend on top of Rattlesnake Ledge enjoying a picnic supper. It was a beautiful evening for a hike...the rain didn't start pouring 'til after 9 pm when we were back in the cars and heading home.
Dinner around the backyard fire pit with Jack, Kim, Tim, and Grace (in the foreground). We even roasted some marshmallows. What on earth is on the side of Tim's head... A gigantic ear or something???
On our way to the old world. In September we headed to Switzerland to celebrate some family milestone birthdays and anniversaries. Tanya's brother Tim surprised us as our pilot from Atlanta to Zurich. We toured the cockpit and met the flight crew. Other highlights include visiting Christian's folks, attending the München Oktober Fest and touring around Scotland.
At a local monastery near Frauenfeld the true meaning of the family name Roost was discovered. The image of Saint Bruno often included a strange contraption known as a "roost", aka a torture device used to burn the bodies of martyred saints! Nice.
Things are not anymore what they once were. Our 5 year "old" freezer has quit its survice. We needed to consume some of the fondue cheese. Good opportunity to invite some friends over for dinner.
After long period of not being part of a worship team. This is my first time on stage at New Live.
I really need to ramp up my playing at home. For way too long i have left my instruments in their cases.
And then winter showes up for a brief visit and makes all things diffrent. I love snow. I hope that there will be another time for nature to sleep under the white blanket. A snow man would be a nice thing to do in my yard. Given that the Snow stays till i am back from work.
This has been a good year filled with family visits, home improvement projects, and much travel. A roadtrip to Montana to visit Uncle Leroy over the 4th of July weekend became a family gathering in his honor due to his passing a few weeks prior. Trips were also made to California and to Christian's homeland. No time for camping this year.
It was an grizzly election year but we will not talk politics. On a lighter note, Christian is working with a new machine at Bucher. It was purchased and delivered at the end of November and quit working soon after. Technicians still do not know what the problem is. They are feverishly trying to figure things out and get the machine up and running. Still no dice. Electronic malfunctions sure are difficult to diagnose! Maybe 2017 will be a better year for that old machine.
Speaking of old, Christian is a proud new member of AARP (and consequently so is Tanya his spouse)... It is a telltale sign of age progression that comes along with 50th birthday parties, unwelcome medical procedures, deteriorating vision and hair loss. Tanya was pleased to use her new AARP membership to get the senior discount at Denny's on our recent Christmas trip to CA. We facetimed Mom and Dad Heiple to show off our new cards. They couldn't stop laughing.
