Born between 1930 & 1970
If you were born between 1930and 1970, you managed to survive an environment filled with
hazards. Let me explain.
When your mother was pregnant she took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, and even ate tuna from a can. And once you were born, she would
put you to sleep on your tummies in a baby crib with bumpers, that was covered with bright colored lead-based paint.
We would ride in the car with no car some, no booster seats, no seat belts, bald tires and same‐ times. no brakes. Riding in the back of a pick-up truck on a sunny day was always a special treat.
We had no childproof lids, no locks on the
cabinet doors. And when we rode our bikes we
didn’t wear helmets, we had on our baseball caps. We drank water from the garden hose, and
would share a soft drink with four friends from the same bottle. We would eat cupcakes, white bread, real butter, and even bacon. We would wash it down with Kool-Aid made with real white sugar, but we were never overweight. Why? Because we were always outside playing.
We would play all day, and come home when
it started getting dark. There were no cell phones
to call us on.
We had no Play Stations, Nintendos, or
X-Boxes. Our TVs were lucky to get 4 channels,
no movies on DVD, no surround-sound, no CD s,
no personal computers, no Internet and no chat rooms. WE HAD FRIENDS! And we went outside to find them.
Sometimes we fell out of trees, got cut. and broke our bones and teeth. But there were never any lawsuits from our accidents. We would got
spanked and no one would call child services on
our parents.
We had Little League tryouts and not everyone made the team . Those who didn‘t had to learn to deal with disappointment. And the thought of our parents bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. Parents actually sided with the law.
If you grew up during this time. CONGRATULATIONS! You had freedom, failure, success and responsibility. And you leaned how to deal with it all.
